Docs make the rounds for new hospital
More than 70 physicians and friends of Parkland Foundation gathered at the recently renovated Nurses' Quarters at Old Parkland to celebrate the contributions of the Physician Council to support the new Parkland hospital.
As members of the Physician Council, 71 physicians have aligned to show their support and approval for building the new Parkland hospital and also to make personal charitable gifts to its construction. Their efforts have produced $680,750 to date for the capital campaign. All physician gifts to the campaign are matched by a challenge grant from the Dr. Bob and Jean Smith Foundation, thus doubling their efforts.
Dr. Kathryn Waldrep, an OB/GYN who served as Chief Resident during her residency at Parkland, and Dr. Roberto de la Cruz, an award-willing palliative care specialist who also trained at Parkland have co-chaired the Physician Council since 2008. Their hope is to grow the Physician Council to 100 physicians and to raise more than $1 million for the new Parkland.
